Renowned the world over for its warmth, hospitality, unrivalled infrastructure and unique culture, it’s little wonder that Ireland is considered The Event Island. From its cosmopolitan cities to stunning seascapes, captivating cliffs to lush mountain tops, events held here take on the very essence of their surroundings. International championships in particular excel in our world-class infrastructure with vibrant people and a landscape that never fails to inspire. We will bring to this event a style and spirit that’s uniquely Irish. A deeply passionate nation, we adore being part of a crowd that roars with unwavering support. Irish hearts, like Irish doors, are always open.
Considered as the sailing and leisure capital of Ireland, Dun Laoghaire is located on the outskirts of Dublin. It offers sailors, officials and families a uniquely compact site – with easy circulation between the accommodation, dinghy park, and social/dining areas. The championship venue is a short distance from the sailing area, airport and capital city of Dublin.
The Laser Masters World Championship takes place in Dún Laoghaire harbour from 7th to 15th September 2018. This is the second time in three years that Ireland has been chosen to host a Laser Worlds event. The Laser Radial Worlds were held in Dun Laoghaire in summer 2016.
The event will be hosted by The Royal St. George Yacht Club, the National Yacht Club, the Royal Irish Yacht Club and Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company. The Clubs are based in Dun Laoghaire Harbour which is adjacent to the superb sailing waters of Dublin Bay on the East coast of Ireland, and have many years of experience hosting major international sailing events. The event is supported by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and Fáilte Ireland.
Both the RSGYC and NYC have shoreside platforms with 200 boat capacities oriented for the prevailing wind with easy access to slipways for launch and recovery. The boat parking areas will have clearly defined parking zones corresponding to fleet divisions ensuring timely launch and recovery.
Charter Fleet Facilities
A large secure area within the Harbour compound adjacent to the RSGYC will be available for the arrival, assembly and return of charter boats. This area is well suited for unloading and packing containers.
Laser Spares Shop
We would hope that CH Marine, the incumbent Laser Agent for the Republic of Ireland, will be on site for the duration of the championship with a full range of spares and equipment. Further details will follow. There is also a local Chandlers; Viking Marine centrally situated less than two minutes from each of the clubs.
Apres Sailing, Social Events Lay Day
A dedicated social area for sailors will be set up in both RSGYC and NYC during the event. Master Class Fleet dinners will be hosted by NYC, RSGYC and RIYC during the event.
A full social programme will be developed with assistance of ILCA and local Laser master sailors.
A ‘Meet and Greet Team’ formed from club members will coordinate a programme of activities and entertainment for visiting friends and families, and be on hand each race day in a central meeting area in the waterfront clubs. An attractive range of visitor attractions will be put in place for the Lay Day in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland, the Irish Tourist Board and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. All details of accommodation available for the Event can be seen Here.
Pre and Post Event Tours
Attendees who wish to combine attendance at the event with a short holiday in Ireland, either before or after the event, can very easily arrange to extend their visit. Ireland has numerous attractions to offer visitors, all of which are easily accessible from Dublin either by car, bus, train or plane.
